September Reset

I find it so interesting that many of us will hold the start of the school year as a time to reset, despite the fact that many of us won't be returning to classrooms this fall.

After summer's long, hot (and rainy) days, northern light skies, socializing and trying to get all the things done in a few months, many of us are ready to get back to a routine, slow down and maybe catch one's breath after a busy summer.

Here are some of the things that I am doing to get back into the swing of things.

Weekly Meal Plans

We all know that making food at home is great for a plethora of reasons : because of its better nutrient value, clean ingredients, leftovers and the ability to save money etc. However, summer flies by and it's easy to get caught up in spontaneity, not getting (or wanting) to go to the grocery store in time, not have the energy to make food or wanting to fill your time with other things. We have all been there.

One of the things I am looking forward to bringing back as a staple is planning out weekly meals. Doing this not only helps you see your week ahead but also helps with time management, spending money (let's be honest things are expensive!), and energy levels in regards to decision making - maybe you can relate to the feeling of after a long day,  dreading having to go to the grocery store or go home and figure out what to put together as a meal.

I have been there with you, no shame here.

My goal is to get back into the habit of planning simple nutritious weekly meals and even getting into some freezer meals/ snacks again that are easy to do and pull out when we need them -because who doesn’t love a freezer meal that you can take out when you don’t feel like cooking.

Large Grocery Shops

It's easy to get stuck in the loop of going to the grocery store every day, especially if we find ourselves in the loop of not prepping a few things in advance. Planning out weekly meal plans will not only help to cut down on saving money, but also saving time and waste.

Some days I love going grocery shopping and seeing whats available. Other days I hate it and could not be bothered for the life of me. We are lucky that we have a little garden that we can grab things out of on those days.

Doing larger grocery shops and stocking up on staples helps a lot and then filling in the blanks with a weekly large shop to get fresh produce is amazing. This helps to actually eat everything that we buy and have a good rotation of foods in place so we know we are getting a good variety of foods in our diet. This also helps to cut down on waste if you are buying ingredients for recipes as opposed to just ingredients to through some things together.

Revamping the Sleep Routine

Sleep has been all over the place and while I feel like the summer sun kept me charged, I can feel the days getting shorter, the nights getting longer and my body naturally wanting to rest and sleep more.

As said above its easy to get lost in the hustle bustle of the summer, fitting in all the things that you want to do in the warm months in and enjoy the spontaneity of life. Its no surprise that this also in turn affects our sleep.

September is a great time to start swapping late nights with earlier wind downs, putting down our phones an hour before going to sleep, maybe a meditation or writing things down so they are out of our minds until we can pick them up the next day.

Setting the next days agenda

Lists can be a great way to help people stay on track with what needs to be done in the day. Its a great way to organize thoughts and help with time management especially in todays world where there are so many things looking for our attention. This can actually help us have more free time in our day as well.

This is a great tool that I use for my business that I am excited to see again after the busy summer.

Happy September!
